|
|
| My elderly mom has had a duece for quite some time. Lately it keeps prompting for the latest update to be installed every few days. She installs it and all is fine for a few days then she get the update screen for the same update she just installed. She lives in Florida and they have had the usual summer thunder storms and power outages on occasion. Any idea why this is happening? |

It sounds like the flash card is going bad and the unit keeps going into _disastor recovery_ . A good indication is if she keeps seeing this upgrade prompt on a green screen. the flash card holds the operating system . if this is the cause the flash card will soon fail completly and an error on a green screen may appear . If the box was hit by a power surge or lightning then it could be another component(s) failing . Either way its time to think about a replacement .
Before replacing the box try a call to MSN TV 2 to be sure its not caught in an _update loop_. Sometimes this can be cleared by a code or something on their end . A hint if its an update loop is you see a normal looking upgrade screen rather then a green background one . _________________ DSL BB

There is no simple answer as to why a unit goes into disaster recovery upgrade mode.
Sometimes something connected to the msntv2 USB ports like a printer or a USB hub malfunctions and that makes the unit do repeated disaster recovery upgrades.
If you have devices inserted in the rear usb ports unplug those and see if that helps.
Could even be a problem with the external power supply.
Or simply the unit itself is getting ready to expire. _________________

I had a few of those recovery prompts back when we had upgrades, usually my photos got "lost" or "misplaced." If her photos are not there anymore she got the recovery upgrade.
If her box is , where does one go for a replacement? _________________ .............................................................

| Thank you all for your information. Will be visiting her this week and will call MSNTV tech support for their diagnostic help as some have suggested while I am there. This is the only active forum I could find for MSNTV2 and am grateful for the help. |
