***WHEEL OF FORTUNE***

Welcome to the web-nuts Wheel of Fortune Game (WOF).
We observe the same basic rules as those used on TV -- with obvious
differences, since there's no opportunity to line up 3 contestants and
give them turns at spinning a wheel.

Instead, what we do is post a complete game, and allow anyone who
wishes to compete to ask for consonants only. There is no way to buy
vowels, so until all consonants are used, vowels are unavailable.

RULES FOR PLAY

These simple rules are observed:

1. Only one letter may be requested in a round. A new round begins
when the host updates the game and enters whatever letter requests are
waiting.

2. Whenever any player has solved the puzzle, they are free to Post their
solution attempt, and the host will acknowledge and declare them a
winner so long as their attempt reasonably matches the puzzle. The
word reasonably is used, because we generally accept answers that
sound like the words of the puzzle -- much like the TV host would, since
he's only "hearing" what contestants say, and there's no "spelling" test
involved. So basically, we try as much as possible to retain the spirit of
the game.

3. WINNER TAKES OVER. This is about the biggest difference from the
TV game. When you solve the puzzle, you're responsible for posting the
next puzzle! So those of us who play realize that we must be free to
accept the responsibilities that go along with a win, which are:

A. You have to come up with your own puzzle -- using any category which
the regular game uses, or a reasonable new one which is clear and easy to
understand.

B. As host, you need to visit your game periodically (perhaps once
every hour), so you can respond to other players' requests for new
letters. Now, the pace is laid back ... and we all understand that
real life comes first ... so you're expected to sleep, go shopping, or
perhaps take in a movie or whatever. Hosts are expected to let the players
know when they are going to be busy for a few hours, so they
know when to expect the next game update to occur.

C. There is a standard format for the game, though you may add your
own individual touches. The proper web-nuts coding for this basic
format is displayed in the next post below the rules. (See FORMAT.)

D. Finally, remember you'll need some basic record of your game.
Some of us just print it out on paper, and circle the letters as they're used.
Others may developed techniques utilizing their computer applications
which will accomplish the same goal. Any way at all will work, but it's
important that you have some simple control method to keep track of the
game's progress toward the solution which only you know, as host.

As the game proceeds, you should advise players when the number of
available consonants is dwindling -- certainly when as few as 3 or 4 are
remaining to solve the puzzle. And when all consonants have been
used, then you should reset the puzzle with Vowels shown as the
only letters available, and Letters Used would restart for the vowels.

Good luck, and enjoy the game!
